CHATHAM, N.J — Chatham’s new sign ordinance process, two full years in the making,  ended in an typical political red tape when Chatham’s Mayor, Nelson Vaughan, vetoed the language that had been previously approved by the Town Council.  However, the council was able to override the veto with a unanimous  vote on Monday, October the 24th.

Vaughn’s veto took everyone by surprise since the Mayer had not expressed any issues with the ordinance during the two years it was being drafted.  Apprantly, the section that covers political signs caught his ire. While the ordinance has been a topic of discussion on many occasions, the board had voted for it previously, with the Mayor’s approval from his position on the planning board. Continue reading →
